Industrial Shredders for Material Preconditioning & Destruction

Shredders help facilities reduce bulky scrap, prepare material for downstream handling, and securely destroy sensitive information. AES provides industrial shredding equipment for corrugated, folding carton, print waste, e-waste, hard drives, secure document destruction, product destruction, and specialty applications. From standalone units to shredders integrated with conveyors, balers, compactors, or controls, AES can help match the right equipment to your process.

Industrial Shredding Equipment from AES

Choosing the right shredder for your specific needs depends on what you are processing, how the material is fed, the required particle size, and what happens after shredding. Some applications need coarse size reduction before pneumatic conveying, compacting, or baling, while others require controlled destruction for security, compliance, product disposal, or recycling preparation.

AES can help evaluate the material, volume, feed method, discharge requirements, and available space to determine the proper shredding approach. Whether you need a standalone shredder, a floor sweep shredder, a top-feed unit, or a shredder integrated with conveyors, balers, compactors, controls, or other equipment, we can help build the solution around your process.

We have a wide range of models for dual-shaft shredders, tri-shaft, core shredders and single-shaft shredding equipment.

Shredder Applications by Material & Process

AES offers shredders for a range of production, recycling, and destruction applications. These equipment types are commonly used to reduce material size, improve collection efficiency, support housekeeping around production equipment, or destroy sensitive materials before they leave the facility.

Paper & Corrugated Scrap

Shredders can reduce paper, corrugated, carton scrap, and other production waste into a more manageable size before collection, conveying, baling, or further processing.

Secure Destruction

Security shredders are used when documents, products, hard drives, or sensitive materials must be destroyed to a specific size or destruction standard, such as NSA or iSIGMA.

Floor Sweep Applications

Floor sweep shredders help process bulky wastepaper and trim around production equipment, reducing buildup and preparing material for pneumatic collection or downstream handling.

Product & E-Waste

Heavy duty grinders with single or dual shafts are used for destroying product returns or overruns, hard drives, electronics, bulky packaging waste, and other materials that require size reduction before disposal or recycling.

Integrated System Support

Shredders can operate as standalone equipment or be integrated with conveyors, air systems, balers, compactors, dust collection, and controls as part of a larger AES solution.

Material Preconditioning

Shredders can be used to reduce oversized or bulky material before it moves into downstream equipment, helping improve feeding, handling, conveying, compacting, or baling performance.

REI DS Series - Dual Shaft Shredders

REI’s dual-shaft shredders are built for demanding industrial environments that require strong, steady material reduction. Using two counter-rotating shafts and low-speed, high-torque operation, these machines break down high volumes of waste with less noise, dust, and energy demand. With multiple model sizes and cutter configurations available, they can be matched to a wide range of applications, including paper, plastics, pallets, foam, insulation, tires, metals, and other tough scrap materials.

Dual-shaft shredders are available in seven model sizes, with cutting chambers ranging from approximately 24″ x 26.5″ up to 39″ x 60″ and drive motors from 20 HP to 150 HP. Models can be configured with cutter widths from 5/8″ to 4″, giving facilities options for different material sizes, throughput needs, and processing requirements.

Ideal for: Paper, plastics, wood, foam, insulation, tires, electronics, and non-ferrous metals.

REI TS Series - Tri-Shaft Shredders

Tri-shaft shredders from REI are designed for heavy-duty material reduction where power, consistency, and dependable throughput matter. Their three-shaft configuration helps pull in bulky material, break it down efficiently, and maintain steady processing for challenging waste streams. With available crusher arm integration and cutter options, these shredders are well suited for cardboard, packaging scrap, folding cartons, core waste, and other high-volume industrial materials while helping reduce noise, dust, and unnecessary energy demand.

Our tri-shaft shredders are available with 48″, 60″, and 72″ opening widths and horsepower options from 40 HP to 80 HP. These units include a crusher arm, support both bolt-on and welded cutter configurations, and are built for facilities that need aggressive size reduction for larger or bulkier material streams.

Ideal for: Cardboard, cores, packaging material, folding cartons, and other paper-based waste streams.

REI Core Shredders

Core shredders from REI are built to reduce large cardboard and paper cores into smaller, easier-to-handle pieces for recycling, disposal, or downstream processing. Designed for tough core waste applications, these machines use aggressive cutter configurations and heavy-duty construction to break down dense, bulky cores quickly and reliably. With opening widths from 36″ to 72″ and horsepower options up to 80 HP, AES core shredders can be matched to different production volumes, helping facilities reduce waste size, improve material handling, and keep recycling operations moving efficiently.

Core shredders are available with 36″, 48″, 60″, and 72″ opening widths and horsepower options of 35, 40, or 80 HP. Models can be equipped with bolt-on or welded cutters, giving facilities flexible options for core processing, material breakdown, and size-reduction needs.

Ideal for: Cardboard & paper cores

REI SS Series - Single Shaft Shredders

REI single-shaft shredders are designed for controlled, high-torque size reduction in industrial recycling and waste-processing environments. Their low-speed operation helps manage noise, dust, and energy use while producing consistent material output. Built for efficient “dump-and-run” loading, these machines reduce the need for careful metering and can handle a wide range of materials, including paper, plastic, wood, foam, textiles, and light metals. With multiple chamber sizes, knife configurations, screen options, and horsepower ranges available, AES single-shaft shredders can be matched to the material type, desired output size, and throughput needs of each facility.

Our single-shaft shredders are available in three model sizes, with cutting chambers ranging from approximately 33.5″ x 31.5″ up to 62″ x 60″ and main drive motors from 50 HP to 150 HP. These models include multiple rotor knife, counter knife, screen size, and hydraulic motor configurations for facilities that need controlled, consistent material sizing.

Ideal for: Paper, plastic, wood, foam, textiles, aluminum, and much more.

Industrial Shredding Equipment FAQ’s

Explore frequently asked questions about industrial shredders, grinders, hammermills, granulators, and size reduction systems for recycling, manufacturing, and material processing applications.

Industrial shredders are used to reduce the size of paper, corrugated scrap, production waste, products, e-waste, and other materials so they are easier to collect, convey, bale, destroy, recycle, or dispose of.

Shredders are generally used for cutting, tearing, or reducing material into smaller pieces for handling, destruction, or preconditioning. Grinders are typically used for more aggressive reduction or finer output, depending on the material and application.

Yes. Security shredders can be used for documents, records, products, hard drives, and other sensitive materials that need to be destroyed before disposal or recycling.

A floor sweep shredder is used to process bulky wastepaper, trim, or scrap collected around production equipment. It helps keep material from accumulating on the floor and can prepare it for pneumatic conveying or further handling.

Yes. Shredders can often be integrated with conveyors, pneumatic collection systems, balers, compactors, dust collection equipment, and control systems as part of a larger material handling process.

The right shredder depends on the material, volume, feed method, required output size, security needs, available space, and downstream equipment. AES can help review these details and recommend the proper equipment configuration.
