Mercury Paper is a producer of paper towels and tissue products located in Strasburg, VA. The company recently expanded their production capabilities by adding two new tissue lines. AES was selected to provide a turnkey solution to capture and convey waste from the converting machines while managing the fine dust generated by the manufacturing process.
Components of the tissue dust collection system include air conveyance ducting, heavy-duty industrial material handling fans, and two exterior dust collectors with explosion venting to meet strict NFPA compliance codes. A flame and spark detection and extinguishing system was installed on each of the new converting lines. The system is controlled by a 460V motor control center (MCC). Fabricated items include all support structures, man ladders, and safety rails.
AES performed all front-end engineering and design services (FEED), as well as a turnkey equipment and installation package with professional project management. Our scope of work included rigging and installation, electrical controls and installation, structural steel fabrication and erection, system start-up, commissioning, and training.
