The Boston Globe, a daily newspaper based in Boston, MA, moved its production facility to a new building in 2016. AES was contracted to design, build, and install a fully integrated scrap collection and conveying system. The result was an efficient, economical, and safe means to automatically handle the scrap generated in the manufacturing process.
The automated collection and conveyance system captures scrap that is released from four gripper conveyors. It then delivers the scrap to either one of two automatic compactors located outside of the facility. The system also captures trim scrap generated at the sheeting and finishing equipment. This scrap is air-conveyed to one of the two automatic compactors.
AES provided a turnkey equipment and installation package with professional project management. Our scope of work included a full electrical control package with touchscreen interface, rigging and installation, integration of all equipment, piping and components, structural steel fabrication and erection, start-up, commissioning, and training.
